Autumn at Norfolk Cordial: Seasonal Serves, Cosy Evenings & a Hint of Christmas
There is something rather lovely about this time of year.
The light changes, the evenings start drawing in and suddenly the drinks we reach for begin to change too. Summer glasses filled with ice give way to slower evenings, warming flavours and drinks made to be lingered over.
And although we’re not quite ready to put the Christmas music on just yet, behind the scenes at Norfolk Cordial this is also the time of year when things begin to feel distinctly festive.
Cordial isn't just for summer
Cordial is often associated with long summer afternoons, but some of our favourite serves actually come into their own during autumn.
Rich fruit, warming spice and citrus all work beautifully as the weather cools.
Rhubarb, Orange & Ginger is particularly good simply topped with hot water, with the ginger bringing a gentle warmth without overpowering the fruit.
Blackcurrant & Quince makes a wonderfully rich autumn drink and works just as happily served warm as it does over ice.
And for something softer and more aromatic, Wild Elderflower remains one of those flavours we find ourselves returning to throughout the year.
It was where Norfolk Cordial began, and there is something about its simplicity that makes it endlessly versatile.
Make the everyday drink feel special
One of the things we love about cordial is that it doesn’t need much fuss.
A beautiful glass, plenty of ice, sparkling water and a slice of fruit can completely change the feel of a drink.
During autumn, we start introducing things like fresh herbs, apple slices, citrus, warming spices and sparkling water into our serves.
The idea isn't to create something complicated.
It is simply to make an ordinary moment feel a little more considered.
After all, that's exactly what we mean when we say:
Beautifully crafted cordials, made to be savoured.
The season for sharing
Autumn also marks the beginning of another part of the year we particularly enjoy: gifting.
Cordial makes a lovely present precisely because it can be enjoyed in so many different ways. Some people drink it with still water, some with sparkling water, others use it in mocktails and cocktails, and increasingly we're seeing people use our cordials in cooking and desserts too.
It is one of the reasons we've been putting so much work into our gift collections this year.
We want them to feel like something you would genuinely be delighted to give — or receive.
And yes… Christmas is coming
We promised we weren't going full Christmas just yet.
But we can give you a little warning.
